Hogan Thomas Role Model

The person I have chosen for my profile leader is Rev. Georgette Morgan Thomas. I met Rev. Thomas in the summer of 2013 when I left the workforce to care for my elderly 83 year mother whose health had debilitated so much she was now confined to a wheelchair. My elderly mother at the time was facing challenges with her landlord and a neighbor had referred me to speak to Rev. Morgan Thomas. At the time we met, Rev. Morgan Thomas she had been the President of the Community board 9 in Manhattan and was also Director of Goddard Riverside services that provide services and advocacy to the elderly, a position she still holds today. She also continues to serve on the Community Board as first Vice Chairperson. She also sits on the Board of Harlem YMCA …show more content…
Morgan Thomas as I have always admired her quite strength and confidence, her compassion, her generosity of spirit and of course her communication style. As someone in the nonprofit sector as I am, I found her to be one whose leadership and communication style one to emulate. She is a role model that leads by example and has a proactive presence in our community. She has been a transformational leader in our community in her tireless advocacy for safe policing of our neighborhood, advocacy on behalf of the seniors in our community and programs for the youth and has been successful in her roles to bring change and growth in the community. She states that with the community board meetings this was the strategy she applied because you can’t be angry as the next person, feeding into the anger doesn’t get your message across and not much gets accomplished. Rev. Morgan also added that she had Dorothy Height, American administrator, educator, civil rights and women 's rights activist as a mentor for 10 years. She states that she also help in shaping her as a leader and effective communicator and that she was also never without her signature hat. I informed Rev Thomas having observed Dorothy Height in media I do see some of the same qualities and traits in her that Dorothy Height portrayed as a communicator.
