Civil War was one of the most important event that against slavery. It has created a controversial topic how the soldiers have such motivation to join in the war between the nations. There are so many senses that serve as motivation for soldiers in the Union and Confederate Armies. In my perspective, duty has played a significant role in this Civil War.
Duty could be understood as a legal obligation for everyone living in a country when they are in need. As everyone knows that, Civil War went against Slavery across the United State in early 1860. This war had brought up a thoughtful experience whether or not people should stop using slaves. Because of fighting for right and common sense between people, more people from Northern United Stated joined this war. It could be understood as initial motivation. A soldier from the Union once said: “I perform but simply duty – a duty to my country and myself…to give up life if need be…in this battle for freedom and right, opposed to slavery and wrong” (22). This man was just one of the soldiers who were willing to fight for the right. But there were also people who fought for nothing.
