Dutch Braid Analysis

Decent Essays
I am slightly nervous for my demonstration speech. I have chosen to demonstrate how to make a dutch braid. When I present a speech to my audience I usually like to have something written down to what I might say just so I never get to the point where I stutter or use the word "um". Though, for my demonstration speech, I can't really do that because the process may not go as planned, so I might just stick to doing main points or key words to think about when presenting. That way if I lose track of my thoughts, I know what to say next. Another thing I am nervous about is while doing the braid, I will first describe how to make it, but once the audience has the process down, I need to think of tips and fun facts while finishing up the product.

On my demonstrative speech called “How to Play a Guitar,” I pull out different topics related with the instrument like the parts of the guitar, music theory, and the diverse skills playing it. For instance, I spend several weeks figuring out my theme. At the end I found this topic, but like was little late I spent more time in some areas than others ones. One of that well developed areas was my attention getter; was strong enough to hook the people. But, for future speeches maybe using a real guitar or pre-recording music, because it would impact my audience in a different way.…

Native ways of keeping culture alive must be revitalized, as colonization was detrimental but did not destroy everything. Indigenous relationships with the peopled universe emphasize environmental values and a way of being that holds strong to cultural values. Colonizers desperately tried to erase this deeply rooted culture, but it is hard to erase a link so completely tied to the land. Deeply embedded in each native person’s pedagogy is history, collective trauma, the reverberating effects of genocide and colonization, and yet Native peoples are resilient, proving strength time and time again.…

As slope increases while discharge and sediment supply are held constant, initially straight channels become more sinuous. Sinuosity continues to increase until a threshold slope is attained, after which any additional steepening of slopes leads to a braided river pattern. When a channel is steepened, stream power initially increases, such that a stream formerly in equilibrium will be pushed into a nonequilibrium condition (Burbank and Anderson,…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…

This was reinforced by feedback I received which said “you seemed slightly nervous at first but then as confidence grew the teaching became increasingly better.” I felt this was due to a lack of preparation and could have easily been resolved by practice and repetition. Also, next time I will prepare some notes to prompt me and to ensure I do not forget to mention any important details the students may…

I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…
