Dusseldorf, Germany is an extremely successful city that is growing in popularity. Though it may not be discussed with the likes of more noted cities, it does possess many qualities that make it worthy to be my region of choice. Such as a stunning harbor that handles over 3 million tons of goods annually, and its modern industrial architecture which includes the thyssen building to the north of the city Centre (Helicon, 2016). Those examples are few of many that make up the several astonishing features. This paper will examine ten characteristics that accomplish the adequate appreciation of this formidable place. Environment, Location, and regions are important topics to include when elaborating the characteristics of an area. I will discuss how this city has welcoming features. More popular topics for anywhere will always include politics, People, and religion. These few things can often make or break a city’s reputation. I will discuss their form of government, as well as the persona of people who live in this area. Some say “money makes the world go around. Trade, economy, and world systems are three vital parts of the benefits to an area. The neighboring rivers contribute heavily to the economy. Finally, I will discuss why I have such a connection to this place and believe it is such a wonderful city. Environment, Location, and regions play essential roles in an areas attractiveness. In western Germany, located on the Rhine River, Dusseldorf sits as the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia state (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2014). This region enjoys an ordinarily temperate climate year-round, and experiences moderate weather. This is due to its location in between the tropics and polar regions. Also, its proximity to the North Sea provides warmth in the area. Despite stereotypic opinions of German weather, Dusseldorf rarely experiences large amounts of snowfall throughout the year. This location and temperature pattern bodes well for tourists and manufacturers throughout the city. A notable region in the area is the Ruhr River. An important tributary of the lower Rhine, the Ruhr valley is a major industrial and mining region (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2014). Its manufacturing of coal is an extremely important economic aid for not just the city, but Germany as a country. It is widely understood that trade, economy, and world systems carry a heavy load with the reputation of a city. With national concern over jobs, the economy in the region is prosperous. In 2002, there was a breakthrough in the economy by adopting the euro as a form of common currency (Wesley E., Petersen, F., 2013). Dusseldorf is led by three main industries including Agricultural Machinery, sanitary ware, and food processing (Helicon, 2016). The various corporations associated with these industries provide jobs throughout the city. Other economic aids in the area include steel rolling, wire making, printing, and publishing (Helicon, 2016) These fields compose of the notable industrial sector. When it comes to importing, and exporting goods, Dusseldorf is at an advantage. Located on the Rhine River, it has three harbors. The city holds an edge over many competitors in the field of importing and exporting by way of water. The name of this positon is called a chancellor. The current Chancellor is Angela Merkel. She is Germanys first female leader, and has held power since 2005 (marquis who’s who, 2016). Many place significance of famous people who are form the area. Dusseldorf also vaunts rich history with two acclaimed artists in their respective genres. Romantic poet Heinrich Heine, and painter Peter von Cornelius were both born in Dusseldorf, and proceeded to achieve tremendous careers (Helicon 2016). As far as religion, Germany as whole is listed as one third protestant, one third roman catholic, and a small minority of Jews. (Lagasse, 2016).
