Dunkin Donuts

It started with Dunkin Donut, an organization that Rachel Doucet worked for, and she said, “It really is a circus at times”. I interviewed Rachel Doucet who happens to works at Dunkin Donuts and I will do a critical analysis on the metaphors that she mentioned about Dunkin Donuts as an organization. It is based on a fast-food industry as an organization and how the people work as well interact in the workforce. I did a fifteen minutes interview and analyzed on the metaphors Rachel described about Dunkin Donuts. My reaction to the metaphors Rachel described was a bit shocking because I did not expect Dunkin Donuts to be crazier than I realize.

First metaphor that I analyzed was, “It probably looks like a madhouse” Rachel said, she is used to being yelled at, yell at others for mistakes, and all she cared was giving out the right order to the customer in order to make the customer happy. The work environment is fast-paced style due to food. Everyone expects to get their food quickly at fast-food restaurants. There is another metaphor that is related to the first one, “it looks like a crappy old car that’s gonna make a lot of noise and might take two tries to get started, but once it is going, it’ll get you there. It is from employees’ perspective by having the communication and knowing that all of them will run around the store. Things at Dunkin Donut are usually changing due to customer’s reactions and orders. Rachel answered a question relating to a dream about Dunkin Donut, ”It would be a nightmare”. She sometimes have dream about quitting the job or messing up someone’s order then the customer would be very mad. She explains on how some days there would be many customers who seem to be mad at her all the way. Lastly, Dunkin Donut experience can be very stressful compared to other organizations. Rachel described her feelings by saying, “we all have a love/hate relationship with Dunkin and the customers.” The metaphors she shared with me gave me an easy vision of what working at Dunkin Donuts looks like. She learned to adjust in an environment where everyone get too comfortable working with each other by expressing their emotions about their work daily. She is part of Dunkin Donut family that made her to continue her career. She has people who support each other by listening to each other and continue through the worst days with customers. Second of all, Rachel shared most of emotional metaphor that she experiences at Dunkin Donut and most of them are realistic and negative. She has one metaphor that explains the love/hate relationship of the employees with customers at Dunkin Donuts. The structure of Dunkin Donuts isn’t always the same due to different manager for each department. The managers have the authority to manage their employees in different ways. The managers also are responsible to make their employees feel good about their work regardless. So, Rachel treats Dunkin Donut like it is just a job to her where she has to get an earning to survive her college career. There is some organization where members feel home and never want to leave. Rachel happens not to experience that due to her mixed feelings experience. In connection, her approach to a particular audience is possible people who want to work at Dunkin Donuts.
