Lady Macbeth To Blame Analysis

Persuading someone into murdering the king is no doubt about it, that it is a big tragedy. Would you be the one to blame; or the person who committed the crime? In Shakespeare’ - Macbeth there are many answers posed to the question, why Macbeth killed Duncan. Some would say that it was his own quest for power that drove him to kill, while others would say that it was the influence of his power hungry wife. Lady Macbeth is to be blamed because she pushed Macbeth to kill Duncan, when she comes into the play the plot thickens, and she is engrossed in becoming the queen of Scotland.

In Act 3 Scene 2, Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth to “be innocent of the knowledge” (pg.100). He makes this statement in reference to the murders of Banquo and Fleance. The significance of the statement is that Macbeth is planning to carry out the deed on his own, without the guidance and support from his wife. However, Lady Macbeth is the one who contributed with the murder, by encouraging him. She is convinced that murder is the only way to make the witches’ prediction come true, but she also believes that he is “too full o’ the milk of human kindness (pg. 30)”, meaning that Macbeth is too kind and respectful. Macbeth’s decision earlier not to kill King Duncan crumbles under the scornful attack of his wife.
In conclusion, Lady Macbeth is the one to blame. There are many explanations as to why Macbeth killed Duncan. I feel that he killed him because of his wife. Throughout the play there are many scenes, which verify my position. Lady Macbeth is not evil but in the beginning of the play she is ruthless and power-hungry.
