In Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings series Gandalf is portrayed as a whimsical, wise, and flawless character. From the beginning, he is shown to love adventures and enjoys the little things in life due to the fact that he is an immortal angel. Dumbledore’s flaws were revealed in the sixth and seventh books when Rowling reveals to the audience that Dumbledore had many questionable judgments and actions throughout his lifetime, something not associated with Gandalf. Actions such as Dumbledore’s fight with Grindelwald haunted him because it resulted in the accidental death of his sister, Ariana. Dumbledore then tried to live his life and make amends for the loss of his sister to only then mess up again and puts on Voldemort’s cursed ring as an apology to his sister thus costing him his life. Like Gandalf, Dumbledore is known to be the wisest character in the series that foresees and prepares for the destined battle and events to come.
