Dumb Ways To Die Analysis

Decent Essays
I had some struggles finding a decent PSA. There are a lot of graphic and somewhat upsetting PSAs out there. I suppose the point is to leave a lasting impression that will leave you thinking twice before you act. For example, the modern drug PSAs seem to revolve around the dangers of meth. I also noticed a lot of anti-cigarette PSAs. While they may leave a lasting impression, I didn't want to use one because they only left me feeling upset. For me personally, I prefer a PSA with a positive or inspiring message. I also really enjoyed the comical PSAs shared as examples. Dumb Ways to Die actually became a game that you can play and can even be seen painted on the walls at Union Station here in Denver! It's not sad or realistically graphic, therefore it's easy to take in.

I decided I wanted to show a PSA that was easy to take in and remained in my memory for some time. I decided to use "Like A Girl" by Always. It's a PSA about empowering young girls and women in addition to promoting equality. This

Scare tactics just make me want to change the channel or press mute. Furthermore, the nature of the message within this PSA is empowering and thought provoking. I feel that it would relate to a lot of people as I'm sure most people have heard this term being used at some point in their life. As for the comical examples of the PSAs listed up above, "Dumb Ways to Die" is pretty catchy. I feel that people would get this song stuck in their head. The artwork is bright and somehow cute. Overall, it's the type of PSA that will stick with you for those reasons alone. The tea PSA brings a serious topic to light with a funny flare. Again, this type of PSA is nonthreatening or upsetting. It's funny and memorable and not overly complex. I believe that people will keep watching for those reasons and are more likely to share it with their

I have used a very commonly known technique that advertisers love to use; I have played on my audiences emotions. Through the use of the rhetoric device, pathos, I have shown images of children who are noticeably in pain, alone, and sick of living in bad conditions. I included a picture of a small African American girl with tears streaming down her face. She looks like she’s trying to be strong, maybe for her siblings, but she can’t hold her emotions in any longer. Two out of the three pictures I placed on the ad depict white children.…

The ASPCA: A Guilt Trip Most organizations and companies successfully advertise their ideas in commercials by appealing to the audience most likely to indulge in them. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) crafts its commercial to target animal lovers. In order to convince this target audience to donate to the ASPCA’s cause, their commercial unfairly plays with viewers’ emotions by using heroic word choice, displays depictions of animals, and utilizes a celebrity endorsement; however, its use of uncertified facts undermines the organization’s credibility.…

Analysis of "Do Video Games Kill?" Video games and homicidal crimes. Two subjects that many people view as having a direct correlation with one another, due to the common, yet mistaken, belief that the playing of violent video games leads to the commit of brutal acts, which is in this case, homicide. Karen Sternheimer addresses this issue in her article "Do Video Games Kill?", contrasting the frequent theory suggesting video games inspire killing by using evidence which includes quotes from recognizable sources, reports on research and studies, and statistics. Instead of putting a way of entertainment to blame for why such atrocities are executed, deeper research into aspects of the killer's life should be conducted, which is the position which Sternheimer provides evidence upon.…

We go through our day-to-day lives, and see rhetoric everywhere. However, we never pause and look at something and think to our selves why we think its rhetoric. Rhetoric needs to provide the three following appeals in a balanced way: Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. This past year’s super bowl featured a commercial in which comedian Kevin Hart sends his daughter off on her first date. The commercial shows the first date and the events that the couple does while Kevin Hart is following them with the new feature that his Hyundai Genesis has.…

In her passionate social commentary, “The pedagogy of disgust: the ethical, moral and political implications of using disgust in public health campaigns,” Lupton expresses her concerns about using disgust as a scare tactic in the public health sphere. Lupton begins her paper by graphically describing the grotesque advertisements that have raised her concerns. While the advertisements express genuine health concerns, Lupton argues that the campaigns only further marginalize the marginalized and create a knee-jerk repulse reaction to certain people whom have legitimate diseases. Lupton observes that making people feel further marginalized from the rest of society does nothing to help them make more health conscious decisions. I agree with Lupton, shaming people…

These painters were commissioned to create a large painting for the Hall of Remembrance, Sargent himself was asked to create a piece depicting Anglo-America co-operation. Sargent therefore traveled to the Western Front to gain inspiration for an epic piece which depicted many people; however, he found it difficult to find a scene with both American and British figures together. One of the only scenes Sargent saw where American and British soldiers were working alongside each other was the aftermath of a German barrage that he witnessed in August…
