Dumb Question

Decent Essays
Being a student is not so fun we have to do work and interact with people we don’t want to, and we have a whole other set of people to boss us around till we're older, to me the most stressful part of school is when you have a question in class, because you have to find out if it’s a dumb question and whether or not the teacher or another student already explained it & if the teacher will even be able to hear you over the noise or just dead silence when you have a soft voice. It’s nerve wrecking when you raise your hand and the whole class looks back at you to listen in on what you want to ask like their clueless too and want someone else to ask their question for them cause they don’t want to be the dumb one. Some students struggle with asking questions in class, so they should ask privately, think before raising your hand, do …show more content…
Thinking about the question can help you find out if you actually know this and in reality having second thoughts about it. It will also help you stutter less if you think about how you will say it before you start talking and saying things like “um..., uh..., etc.” especially when you say it way more than 3 times or don’t actually. Of course, it will also be fun and new friends or just knowing others is great, most of the time in theater you get to show your goofy, and stupid side so you won’t be so worried when it comes to class most of them might already be planning on doing the same thing anyway. Most likely people will come up to you during the activity, so you don’t have to worry about having no friends in there or that you’re too shy to talk to anyone voluntarily, and making tons of new friends is fun and easy or even just people fining cool enough to talk to. A lot of students don’t raise their hand for a small reason that affects them in big ways, try to do these three things to overcome that small

“Making a big life change is pretty scary. But, you know what’s even scarier?Regret.” This quote is from an anonymous person, but it relates because August made the decision to go to an ordinary public school for the first time and it was my first time going into public school. School is the beginning of our adventure through life. It not only teaches us the mandatory lessons needed but also ones that stick to us throughout life. Whether it was that one extraordinary teacher or the one everyone hated, students would still learn and use it to their advantage. Unfortunately, this was the mindset of teenagers/ young adult’s years ago; now the students of today aren’t understanding the value of their education and how far it can take them.…

School life isn't just fun and games. As it is many suffer from anxiety, stress, deprression, and other mental illnesses. According to Healthline.com, " Of students surveyed in the spring 2014 National College Health Assessment, 33 percent reported feeling so depressed within the past 12 months that it was difficult to function. In theater you get the choice to stay after, and when you do, it's fun. We build intricate sets and rehearse emotional play scripts and audition for new shows to perform. Amongst all of the chaos, there's always time to break away and work on your homework, or to hang out with friends. Actually, it's funny I should say that, many people I know say that they met their friends in marching band, I met no one. I didn't have the chance to attend the summer practices and when I showed up on the first day of school, not a single person talked to me.…

A counter argument may be that non-LD students are classified as LD, but in actuality are just are lazy and do not put forth an effort. That is not always the case. It has been proven that this is not true. There was a research where LD students that were recognized by the school as LD were compared to non-LD students who were not recognized. Although the scores were similar, forty percent of the students had a possibility of being classified incorrectly.…

I have three weeks left of my freshman year, and so far this year has been quite the journey. Although, the journey has kind of sucked if I’m being honest. High school has been alright, but middle school was way better. I miss the nice teachers, the roll schedule, and much more. The classes have been easy this year, but I would prefer a challenge rather than just easy work to keep us busy.…

When I was a sophomore, I was just as shy as I was when I was a freshman, so going to a new club meeting was daunting. But, I loved theater, so I had no excuse not to go to the stage crew meeting at my school. I went to the meeting, didn’t speak to anyone and when I left I felt okay. I still felt nervous and maybe a little intimidated by the people I saw at the meeting and the director. Not to mention that I saw the schedule that I would have to commit to if I was a part of this production.…

Schools are very important for students. In school, we can learn a lot of things, but students need the right teachers and the material to be successful in life and for a better education. Jean Anyon in “Social Class and The Hidden Curriculum of Work” shows that in some schools they don’t have the right teachers or material because of the economy or the neighborhood the schools are located. Also low-income people do not get the same education as people with a good economy.…

Your entire life you will be surrounded by authority figures, but I think high school is when you start to quickly lose respect for some of those people in your life. For example, there is always that one teacher that no one can stand. Sometimes people are put in positions above you, such as teachers, and yet they have no idea what they are doing. They are both bad at the job and oblivious. This can be extremely frustrating, but you have to try to think about things from their point of view.…

The United States has made standardized testing a major concern across the country. Teachers are now required to prepare students for tests such as the ACT, SAT, KCCT, etc. Students are taught how to take these tests rather than being taught important curriculum that could help them in their futures. Most people don’t see the damage done when students and teachers are preparing for these tests. Students are not becoming more knowledgeable, through these tests, they are learning how to read questions and fill in a bubble based on “the best answer.”…

In Dead Poets Society, Mr. Keating shows a different and more hands-on experience of teaching than the standard way the school teaches. Learning by example versus learning by notes is a huge difference for many, and it can drill the message deeper into further understanding. Dead Poets Society does a good job demonstrating the emotions that result from these two different tactics. When educating a teenager, Mr. Keating’s Transcendental philosophies are better to use than Welton Academy’s philosophy of Tradition, Honor, Discipline, and Excellence. Teenagers need guidance, reassurance, and the tools to equip them for life later on.…

To be honest, I hate school with a passion, yet I love learning as much as living. As a child, schooling created a feeling of loneliness and sadness that echoed throughout my life, even now. I didn’t meet the standard levels for literacy and was separated from my classmates in elementary school for special reading and writing classes. Also the lack of freedom to say and move the way I wished to, and the rebellion that stemmed out of me in middle school due to these limitations. Finally, the conforming in high school to appease my mother, friends that drove me over the edge, yet even now I feel the same bull-crap in college.…

I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…
