With Red Granite Pictures financing the movie, distribution and marketing has been carried out by Universal.
Universal distribution chief Nikki Rocco had spoken out about the success of the original film which drove them to take on a follow-up film.
"'Dumb and Dumber' was a beloved film on home entertainment, and people wanted to be entertained. It's escapism," Rocco explained.

Overall, 'Dumb and Dumber To' was found to have appealed to a wide range of audiences including Caucasians and Hispanics. Majority of its viewers have been males; in terms of age, roughly 43 per cent of the audience has been younger than 25.
While 'Dumb and Dumber To' is enjoying its debut at the top of the box office, Disney's 'Big Hero 6' and 'Interstellar' by Christopher Nolan have reached their second weekend and are also sitting comfortably on the next couple of spots.
Coming in at number 2, 'Big Hero 6' raked in $36 million for its second weekend with a sum of $111.7 million from domestic locations alone.
Meanwhile, 'Interstellar' from Paramount and Warner Bros. have earned the number 3 spot for the box office and pulled in $29.2 million this weekend, totaling $97.8 million among domestic
