Druidism is a religion that stems from the core belief in unity between man and nature. They were mainly practiced by a group known as the Celtics. The Druids didn’t have a writing system because their history was passed down through word, so there is little to nothing known about the Druids in Great Britain. The only written evidence historians have uncovered is through other civilizations interacting with them. The main civilizations that wrote about the Druids were the Romans and the Greeks. The Commentaries on the Gallic War is one of few historical written sources that historians have about the druids. During this time there was two raising religion, this paper will find a comparison of these two religions and see their cultural differences. The two religions are Christianity and Druidism.
The Commentarii de Bello Gallico was a journal written by Julius Caesar which covers his firsthand accounts of the Gallic War. Julius Caeser was a general who led the Romans in the Gallic war against the Celtic people. The Commentarii de Bello Gallico translates to Commentaries on the Gallic War. The source was biased because the author won the war so he could dictate its history and this could lead to inaccuracies in certain aspects of his journal. Julius Caesar probably created these journals so he could have a historical reference that he was able to take down an entire religion and boast his superiority for the Roman Empire. Caesar wanted to show his superiority to gain respect from the roman people which eventually allowed him to become a king. From the reading, it seemed that Caesar recognized the potential of druidism and he wanted to interfere. From reading this book the druids were barbaric and use evil
