The novel I will be comparing my book to is The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz by Mordecai Richler
The thesis statement: These novels have a lot of differences but there are also have similarities with both of the protagonists which are their drive and ambition towards their goal in life
Arguments
1) Both of the protagonists have a goal to achieve In The Alchemist by Paul Coelho, Santiago has always wanted to travel around the world. During his deep sleep on a sycamore that grew out of the ruins of a church, Santiago had a recurring dream of a child telling him to seek treasure at the foot of the Egyptian pyramids. He believes that this dream is true, so he began to meet and ask different kinds of people about his dream. He was contemplating about going home and giving up his dreams. Santiago met a Crystal Merchant on top of a hill in Tangier. He was offered a job there until he could get enough money to travel to Egypt. Another person helped Santiago on his path which is The Alchemist. The Alchemist helped him reach the Egyptian pyramid through the desert and he helps Santiago hone his supernatural powers like talking to the environment around him. In The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz by Mordecai Richler, Duddy Kravitz has found the land that he would want to ultimately buy; he found the land with Yvette. She let him use her bank account to buy off the land. Yvette is an essential employee to Duddy’s success and is a great helper to his business. Duddy also has a good partnership with Virgil. Duddy got money off Virgil’s pinball machines and he also became a loyal driver to his
