From knowing that virtues can make one thrive and be the best that they can be can persuade institutions to set certain “values” to be practiced to ensure a better environment. For example, Saint Francis University has five core values that students and faculty should practice to ensure a religious, safe, and thriving environment. Now as these values become practiced more, they can quickly become habits/virtues for individuals on how to act around, and how to treat other people/things. Therefore by introducing a new way of living or thinking could drastically change a person, a community, or in Francis’s instance, the world. So from combining Catholic Christianity and ST.…

As my time at Rockhurst comes to a close, I have realized that the most important lessons that I have learned has been how to be a well-rounded young man. Since my first day, I have heard that the charge of the Jesuit schools, going back to St. Ignatius of Loyola, is to create “men and women for others” and to instill the ideals of the “grad at grad” repeated countless times. While I did not know what those sayings meant at the time, I now know that Rockhurst has prepared me to be a leader and young man as I start the next chapter of my life. Being a man for others means that I need to put the needs of others and the community in front of my own in context with the five characteristics of the grad at grad.…

Graduation hallmarks a time of genuine but, scholastic reflection of dynamic memories, while personal goals dictate achievements, spiritual growth, and a legacy left for younger generations to follow. Shorter University fosters the opportunity to receive a Christ-centered education while allowing students to remain focused on pursuing their relationship with God. As an exuberant high-school senior, I reside with my mother, younger sister, and my troublesome pet cat, Cally, and I enjoy working part-time at Marco’s Pizza. My arduous pursuits consist of playing the clarinet, writing poetry, learning the art of the French language, and volunteering throughout the community. Apart from earning a degree in accounting at Shorter University, my personal goals, that I will accomplish by graduation, range not only - from harnessing a deeper relationship with God as I continue to fulfill his call to share the gospel - but also, to developing new, yet immutable friendships, while cultivating my greatest contribution: my desire to publish my writing to glorify God.…

Catholic moral reasoning does not solely rely on the sources and norms of the Catholic Church in order to obtain friendship with God. While the sources and norms serve as the primary ways to achieve and know friendship with God there are different aids that are available to help one pursue one’s proper ends. The aids are broken into external and internal. There are also obstacles that stand in the way or interrupt one’s pursuit of the good; these are called vices.
