The client presents with symptoms and behaviors that are consistent with a DSM-5 diagnosis of Adjustment Disorder with mixed anxiety and depressed mood. Based on the information provided, this client met the criteria for A, B1 and B2, C, D and E. Hank, a 33-year-old male, scheduled a counseling appointment after his wife informed him she is divorcing him after 8 years of marriage. He states that he had no idea that she was that unhappy. He was devastated when she told him she wanted a divorce. After his wife told him her decision to leave him 3 weeks ago, he stated that he has never felt this bad in his life (Criterion A). He stated that he feels extremely depressed, he is crying all the time, he feels hopeless, and doesn’t want to face anyone.
