A person is involved in a drunk driving accident every two minutes. Drunk driving is a big topic going throughout the world. Driving while drunk accidents can happen at any moment. Drinking and driving accidents are preventable by following the Blood Alcohol Content or BAC. The BAC is the percent amount of alcohol you have in your body. In the United States it is illegal for a person that is 21 or over to drive with a BAC of 0.08%. According to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) as of 2011 10,000 people have died of a drunk driving accident. That number is really high and there are a lot of accidents going on each year because of drunk driving. The United States wants to prevent people from getting hurt each year.

Sandy a retired Librarian , was 62 years old at the time when her accident happen. Sandy had many plans on enjoying her retirement. Except none of her plans happened because on April of 2009 Sandy was cut off in a highway and was hit by a young drunk driver. "It was a day that would ultimately change my life and the lives of so many of my family and friends." stated Sandy. Sandy’s physical and emotional life would never be the same due to her accident. Even the life of the young drunk driver changed ,because Sandy sued the young driver.
Most people who drive while drunk get drunk at parties. If you're hosting a party with alcohol and a person gets into a drunk driving accident the host can get involved in a lawsuit. Many teens have parties with alcohol. That's why the leading cause of death for teens is traffic accidents and drunk driving is 1/3 of the traffic accidents.
If a driver gets arrested because he or she was driving while drunk then he or she is charged with a DUI ( Driving Under the Influence). Many drivers have several DUI's, those drivers have spent a lot of time in court and spent hundreds of dollars worth of fines. A Breathalyzer is a device that you breath into and it calculates your BAC. Police officers have breathalyzers Which allows them to calculate the BAC of drunk drivers.
