In 2010, nearly 10,000 people were killed due to drunk driving accidents, which accounts for close to thirty-one percent of motor vehicle fatalities in that year. When was the last time you heard anything about one’s alcohol consumption killing someone? Not frequently enough, in fact, there are an average of 115 people killed daily due to someone's choice to drink irresponsibly, but society fails to emphasize the impact drunk driving has on America. Alcohol is something seriously abused within society and the consequences that come with its maltreatment need stronger enforcement. The effects of drunk driving can do so much more than take someone’s life; it ripples throughout a community and causes havoc among hundreds of people. If you care about victims of drunk driving accidents, then you will want to make a change in the DUI laws in order to provide safety to the environments in which you drive in. Would you want to be the next victim of a drunk driving car crash, how about a family member or friend? Damage control needs to begin to happen; it’s evident the punishments for drunk driving are too lenient and not harsh enough on the offenders. The lives of innocent victims deserve justice and the community that surrounds them is entitled to justice as well. As Margaret Mead once said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Stop standing idly by in such an unjust world, educate your community and end the suffering so many face all due to one’s selfish
