Drunk Driving Monologue

As Louise drove down Mountaineer Boulevard, she was nervous about going to court again, being unsure which would upset her more, listening to her husband’s yelling about her drinking or Judge Lucas’s lectures. When she pulled into the parking lot, she glanced at Mike sitting in his car.

Opening the car door, she noticed the look of disappointment on his face as she sat in the front seat and fastened the seatbelt. Without acknowledging her, he backed out of the parking space without saying a word. He never smiled her while driving toward the courthouse. At last, tears rolled down her cheeks, "Mike, I can 't handle this. Please, say something. I can 't take the thought of going to jail, and even worse, you won 't talk to me. Damn it! It upsets

Don’t you know it embarrasses me when my secretary tells me they stopped you for drunk driving? My Lord, Honey, when I enter the station they know why I’m there before I even give them your name. Remember, the money I contribute to the judge’s reelection committee, well that was to keep your stupid ass out of jail. You should consider the consequences of your actions before you get in a car when you’re drunk.”

“I’m a social drinker and nothing more.”

“Huh, Honey, please be careful," Mike pleaded.

"Now wait a minute!” Raising her voice and she pointed her finger pointed her finger and raised her voice. “I’m a good wife and damned good mother to Donna, Wayne, and Justin. You should know I need something to help me sleep because of those awful dreams. Remember, we talked about them.”

“I wish you would get something from the doctor to help you sleep. How was your meeting?” He asked and wanted to talk about something else.

“It was okay. The mayor’s wife was our speaker. She is about caring for animals. The next thing you know, she’ll want me to clean the bird poop off the statues around the governor’s mansion.”Her experience with the mayor’s wife was a disappointment. “I need to finish the next few months before I can accept a position in the state

“Yes, dear, you have a major problem and you’ll go to jail if you keep drinking and driving. You’ve had a problem for years and it’s gotten worse since we moved here. If something is bothering you, let’s fix it before it destroys our family. I love you and want to help,” he said and tried to hug her, but she refused to allow it.

“I love you, as well, but you’re wrong. Of course, I can quit drinking when I want,” Louise said and turned toward the wall again as she mumbled. “Guess someday I’ll face my demons.”

“I’ll see you later,” he said as he left the room, and slammed the door behind him. He knew she would pass out soon. The next morning, Mike went to work, as usual, leaving his wife asleep.

Later in the morning, he checked on her several times and learned she was sleeping. Around noon, he went to lunch and checked to her. Finding her sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee, still in her bathrobe and complaining about feeling horrible, he was irate. “Good morning.”

“Okay.”

“How are you feeling?”

In 2010, nearly 10,000 people were killed due to drunk driving accidents, which accounts for close to thirty-one percent of motor vehicle fatalities in that year. When was the last time you heard anything about one’s alcohol consumption killing someone? Not frequently enough, in fact, there are an average of 115 people killed daily due to someone's choice to drink irresponsibly, but society fails to emphasize the impact drunk driving has on America. Alcohol is something seriously abused within society and the consequences that come with its maltreatment need stronger enforcement. The effects of drunk driving can do so much more than take someone’s life; it ripples throughout a community and causes havoc among hundreds of people.…
