In 2014, 9967 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one-third (31%) of all traffic-related deaths in the United States (“Impaired”). There are millions of people drinking and driving. This is a major issue because it causes a ton of deaths. Drunk driving needs to be solved somehow and there are a few ways that can help the deaths decrease. Many deaths are caused by drunk driving, this can be solved by having a designated driver and a breathalyzer available.
Of the 1070 traffic deaths among children ages zero to 14 years in 2014, 209 (19%) involved an alcohol-impaired driver (“Impaired”). Of the 209 child passengers ages 14 and younger who died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes in 2014, over half (116) were riding in the vehicle with the alcohol-impaired driver (“Impaired”). Among drivers with BAC levels of 0.08% or higher involved in fatal crashes in 2014, three out of every ten were 21 and 24 years of age (“Impaired”). In 2014, over 1.1 million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics (“Impaired”). That’s one percent of the 121 million self-reported episodes of alcohol-impaired during among US adults each year (“Impaired”).
