Because of the nature of NHS, I wanted the event to be community service, but at the same time, I wanted to emphasize the influence of literature. So, after some perusal, I came across Books for Africa which sends second-hand books to assuage the literature dearth in Africa. I created the feasible concept of setting up collection bins around the school and eventually donating them. The rest of the club quickly got on board and within a couple hours, we even had a sponsor to ship the donations. I have been involved in many service projects, but this resonated. The dance was a big success; people from various schools across the county came. In addition to the dance, as president, my junior year, I in juncture with the other members, gave daily announcements. Each was a succinct bio of a lesser-known, yet pivotal individual of the Hispanic world. With the current ambiance of American society, it is strikingly necessary to cultivate an understanding of ourselves as ubiquitous natives of a common realm. America is becoming more nuanced and our education should reflect it. For these reasons, I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in HISP.
