There are many industries that should be required to provide a drug free workplace policy with drug testing. Industries with safety concerns such as construction, manufacturing, protective services, and other service industries should require testing to avoid workplace accidents that could potentially harm the employer or other employees. Other industries that have higher incidents of workplace drug abuse should also be required to provide a drug free workplace policy with drug testing. The following industries that have the highest reported employee workplace drug abuse are: Construction 15.6%, Hospitality 11.2%, Machine Operators and Inspectors 10.5%, Transportation 13.5% (heavy alcohol use), Precision and Production 13% (high alcohol abuse). If employers are in an industry that has safety concern issues and/or high reported workplace drug abuse should implement a drug free workplace policy with drug testing to attempt to lower drug abuse in the workplace.
All Federal employees are required to follow the Mandatory Guidelines for Federal Workplace Drug testing Program (Sec 503 of Public Law 100-71).
