Drug Use Research Paper

Individuals should not have the right to engage in behaviors, like drug use, because behaviors, such as drug use, always affects other individuals, such behaviors are commonly dangerous, and according to scripture we are to be sober minded. Everyone deserves freedom and everyone has rights, but when those rights negatively affect other individuals or society those freedoms and rights must be monitored and limited to provide protection for the larger number. This is a situation that has to consider the greatest good for the greatest number.
It does not matter how isolated an individual is when a choice to engage in behavior, such as drug use, their choice negatively impacts the individuals that love and care for that individual, their family, their coworkers, the community, and society as a whole. Almost a year ago, my nephew took his own life while under the influence of alcohol, cocaine, and prescription medication. This negatively affected each and every person in our family, his friends, and our community. Individuals that are under the influence are often times not able to make rational decisions that they would typically make do to their thought process being impacted by the substance. An individual that is under the influence of a drug may hallucinate causing the individual to act paranoid or violent towards others. Drug use and crime often times goes hand in hand. Individuals engage in criminal activity to obtain drugs and gangs fight over territories to sell drugs. An addiction has the ability to increase an individual’s likeness to participate in risky behaviors that expose them to HIV such as using and sharing needles and engaging in unsafe sex
