Every country in the world has problems, but not quite as large as Colombia. Their problem affects everyone living in the country and even tourists. Colombia is the biggest player in the trafficking of coca in the world. Their production has increased greatly, the FARC control almost all of the drug trade business, and the eradication program is failing. Colombia is the biggest cocaine producer in the world. Peru and Bolivia are the second and third top producers, and this country is pumping out more cocaine than both of them combined. Not only is Colombia the top producer, but production is still on the rise. There has been a 34% increase. That is a 60 ton increase! Antioquia, a state in Colombia, has seen a 95% increase in growth. …show more content…
In the early years of this group there wasn’t as much crime involved and money was fundraised to support the group. As time went on a reserves dwindled they took a step into the drug trade. Now decades later they control most if not all of the drug trading business in Colombia. Campaign funding now almost all comes from the drug trade around 150 to 500 million dollars. That is only the money spend on campaigning the rest goes to food, shelter, recruiting, etc. Many of individuals in their force are children, kidnapped at a young age. The farmers specifically have had a huge impacts on their lives. They are proud to return to growing food because it reminds them of a more innocent time. Without coca growing on their lands they sleep better at night. Farmers who grow coca encounter many problems. Along with the money comes murders, prostitution, alcohol problems. These things affect every aspect of their lives. They lose the ones they love. Being involved in prostitution bring along a whole set of problems by itself. Living a high stressed life causes people to look for ways to deal with stress. This leads them to excessive drinking and sometimes serious drug addictions, which are becoming more and more common with the increase of product in
