For this assignment, I was asked to research and report on a current world issue. I chose to research the drug world in Mexico. Before researching this topic, I already knew drug trade is a common thing in Mexico, drugs are imported and exported from and to Mexico and many people are killed because of reasons related to drugs. A couple of things I wanted to know about this topic were how drug trade has affected Mexico economically and the normal way of living and how much violence had been directly tied to the drug trade. In the end, I decided to investigate if the legalization of drugs would reduce violence in Mexico.

My research question was would the legalization of drugs in mexico reduce violence. In my first source Violence and Drug-Trafficking in Mexico , I learned ten thousand illegal immigrants have been kidnapped for money, killing a man is cheaper than people aspect, and that the violence in mexico had escalate due to Felipe Calderón announcing “a war on drug-trafficking.” This information is important because shows that people are not only killed they share also been kidnapped. It shows that killing a man is very cheap in Mexico. It also learned that the violence has gone up due to the announcement of a war on drug trafficking in Mexico. If this had not happened the violence would have stayed down or lower than it is now.
My second source Landmark Case in Mexico’s Supreme Court Could Pave the Way for Marijuana Legalization, explains that if Marijuana does infact become legal on the grounds that the illegalization of marijuana limits the right to free development of one’s personality, it could lead to the legalization of marijuana for personal use without having to buy it from the black market or other forms of getting it. This information was valuable because it shows how the legalization of drugs could stop people from having to buy the drugs from the black market or other illegal forms of obtaining what they
