With infamous gangsters such as Whitey Bulger and Al Capone both the federal government and individuals states have adapted to the lessons learned from these criminals. Both federal and state law enforcement have bounded together to create joint task forces that work together to take on criminals and their networks. With the increasing drug problem, states such as Texas have some of the harshes punishments for the trafficing of illegal drugs. Acts such as the Texas Controlled Substances Act are some of the ways states have evolved to control and combat the growing drug problem plaquing our country (Texas Drug Trafficking / Distribution Laws. n.d.). Departments dedicated to investigating specific crimes such as the white collar crime division…
The Montana Meth Project accomplished its goal of scaring teenagers about meth. The question about this ad and all of the Montana Meth Project’s ad is whether or not they really keep teenagers from using meth. Is scaring kids the best way to keep them from using drugs? Is it more effective to focus on information and rehabilitation? These are the questions that we need to answer moving forward.…
Sharon’s drug addiction began at the age of 22. She started drinking alcohol at parties, not thinking of its future consequences. Drugs soon replaced the alcohol and began using marijuana. She thought it of no harm to her because she did not consider it a “hard” drug like cocaine or morphine. Although she swore to herself to never use such drugs, Sharon soon started using crack cocaine to deal with her personal and family problems.…
The biggest problems in America that I’ll briefly go over are drug addiction, depression, and education. Education is the stronghold to solving predicaments within a community as well as worldwide. As different as every person can be we are still one thing, a human. A special thing about us is that we can share a bond, an emotion, and I believe we’ve become cultural psychopaths who don’t empathize with people who are different from us. Disclaimer:…
Narcotics Anonymous Meeting On Tuesday September twentieth, I attended my first narcotics anonymous (NA) meeting to observe the process of how a NA meeting is conducted and what it entails. I expected the NA meeting to be held in an authorized medical building or church. It was not. Recovery and Beyond functions out of a small, run down residence off West Mahoney Avenue in Mesa.…

Yes, the opioid epidemic is a community issue; therefore, in the planning phase, it would be a great idea to engage the community in helping you win the fight against opioid. “Community Mobilization attempts to engage all sectors of a community or setting in a community-wide (or setting-wide) effort to address a healthy, or environmental issue” (Fertman & Allensworth, 2017, p. 65). “There are four phases in mobilizing a community, and they are: planning of mobilization, raising awareness, building a coalition, and taking action (center for disease control and prevention, n.d)” (Fertman & Allensworth, 2017, p. 65). I am inferring that your program is about changing people’s behavior so that you can successfully improve the environment.…
As heroin has become an epidemic crossing all social classes and ethnic groups, it is vital that education and prevention programs be accessible to all. As a society, we are in a state of reacting to crisis instead of being proactive in understanding the causes that lead us here. People need to understand the dangers of the drug to realize that trying it only one time can lead to a lifetime struggle. It is very important that education programs be implemented into all schools rather than having it there for people as an option. To further awareness, there needs to be increased coverage through all forms of social media as that is the best way to convey information.…

When I started this response paper I thought I was just going to be looking at a bunch of different websites that all looked the same and said pretty much the same thing. It was very refreshing to see that wasn’t the case and that for the most part they were all very different. This was a really hard response to do because there were so many good campaigns which made it really hard to choose just two. One of the campaigns that I thought was most effective was Student Intervention Reintegration Program(SIRP). This campaign targets the youth and focuses on educating them about the experimentation and usage of various drugs and alcohol.…
When people think of drug abuse in America they usually think of a heroin addict stabbing a needle into their arm, but Americans often tend to overlook the opioid epidemic’s place in suburban atmospheres. St. Louis County ranks nearly four times the national average for heroin related deaths in the country, and at the center of this is Kirkwood. From the outside Kirkwood looks to be the perfectly stereotypical suburban neighborhood. However, this is not necessarily true. Kirkwood High School has received national media coverage due to multiple heroin related deaths in the high school since 2014.…
There have been several deaths caused by the plaguing addiction of drugs and alcohol. Drug use is becoming a growing problem that needs to be contained and prevented with the help of an expansion of the organization LAPP (Licking County Alcoholism Prevention Program) branching out into its own center called EPLAPP, (Extensive Progression of Licking County Alcoholism Prevention Program). To cut back on the drug use and deaths in Licking County, EPLAPP will provide users and abusers with the resources they need to sober up, cutting back on the drug use rate which will cut back the number of deaths. With the creation of EPLAPP, the services being provided will be more in depth and help some with more employees/volunteers to help addicts, along with other resources, such as financial aid, counseling, and sober living facilities. To persuade readers that the expansion is the best way to combat drug abuse, the use of ethos, pathos, and logos will be implemented.…
My biggest personal challenge in social action and community advocacy is in learning with the community, gathering its history, and having the passion to build relationships with others. I learned this while working within a recovery setting, which proved to be very challenging. But helping women at the program gain a new outlook on their own recovery, for the better, was a challenge I was up for. Understanding the importance of community and relationship is the key to success.…
