What is a drug counselor? A drug counselor is a person that helps you try to control your substance or drug abuse. Drug counseling has been around for a long time to help others and try to solve their drug abuse problems. There are many reasons on why drug counseling is a good job. The main examples that will be discussing are the history, description of the job, requirements, and motivations.

Drug counseling is a very tricky job because you need to know what you’re getting into. Jon Daily explains how being an being a drug counseling is a good thing, He says,” I became a drug abuse counselor because I had an urge to help others that are going through a rough time.(D.Jon.)” Jon Daily motivation to to becoming a drug abuse counselor was to help people try and make people quit their bad habits and actually try to make them improve in life such as their family and himself, this would improve motivation a lot knowing you did your job right. Another example motivation on why to become a counselor is because of the experience you get from it. While being a drug counselor you get to support and guide the client through trouble spots and setbacks that might other wise lead to catch a relapse(Approach towards drug counseling.) What a counselor is trying to do as a drug counselor is to control other people's abuse and help them get themselves together so people that are abuser can have a chance at having a normal life again.Another motivation is helping them stay away from drugs in general. As a counselor you teach the client how to break the addictive cycle and establish total abstinence from all mood-altering drugs(Approach towards drug counseling.) The motivation that it gives just for helping others is immense many drug counselors know this from experience knowing that they have helped someone change their way and be able to be healthy and live great again like the abusers used to be before they went into heavy
