No one wants to see someone they care about in the newspaper for something abysmal, especially not if it’s for a drug bust. This is the dreadful case in the beginning of James Baldwin’s short story, “Sonny’s Blues”. The unnamed main character notices his little brother in the newspaper for a drug bust, which is only the beginning of this roller coaster that depicts multiple aspects of life. “Sonny’s Blues” consist of guilt, brotherhood, and understanding. “Sonny’s Blues” has a slight focus on the guilt of the main character as well as his brother, Sonny’s. “… Then I felt guilty—guilty, probably, for never having supposed that the poor bastard had a story of his own, much less a sad one.”(Baldwin 3) The previous quote is an example
