Drug addiction is a brain disease because the abuse of drugs leads to changes in the structure and function of the brain. It is a condition characterized by an overwhelming and uncontrollable desire or craving to continue taking a drug. Teen’s today are exposed to many things that until recently were things not talked about in polite society. With media today teenagers are seeing sex and drugs in everyday situations. And these situations are being glorified by celebrities. With Britney Spears and her shaved head and Lindsay Lohan being a raging drug addict teens don’t have many, if any role models. You can rarely find any teen book without the protagonist experimenting with drugs and alcohol at least once throughout the book. Peer pressure plays a big role in teen addiction a lot of teens use drugs for the first time with their friends. Almost 50% of high school seniors have abused a drug of some kind. (Teen rehab) 28% of teens know at least 1 person who has tried ecstasy. (Teen Rehab) most teens that use drugs use it to relief stress. Music plays the biggest part on advertising and promoting drug usage. Rappers like Lil Wayne, Eminem,and Wiz Khalifa are some of the rappers that talk about drugs.
