Drug Abuse Myths

There are several myths that most people believe about drugs and drug abuse. The main myth that most people believe is that marijuana is a “gateway drug”. D.A.R.E, an organization that teaches kids to resist drugs and violence, used to believe that the use of marijuana would lead to subsequent abuse of more dangerous substances. Which this thought has a correlation, but there is a study done by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, concluding that there was no convincing evidence of marijuana having any pharmacological properties that would encourage the subsequent use of other drugs.
