Drug abuse is a problem that runs rampant among teenagers in our world today. Teens and young adults are very impressionable and at a vulnerable age where they can make poor decisions with dire consequences. The resources at addictioncenter.com say that out of 2.6 million people who have tried marijuana half of them were under the age of 18. Youth often do not understand the dangers they face when trying drugs or how serious addiction can become. According to abovetheinfluence.com, nine out of ten people with a substance abuse problem start use before the age of 18. This organization works to prevent teens from using drugs through different campaigns. Analyzing one of these campaigns can help us see the different ways the audience is targeted. The advertisement appeals using text with pathos to persuade the audience to be above the influence.

The room dimly light, giving the image a sad or dark feeling. The room is filled with brown shades and pale tones, which gives the advertisement overall feeling of doom, gloom, and danger, appealing to the emotions of the audience and relating that feeling to the idea of drug use. Instead of utilizing bright and happy colors that are typically used when a product is being promoted, they want the opposite effect as they try to make drugs seem less appealing to potential users. When people begin to associate these ideas and emotions with the idea of drugs, the idea of using drugs will be associated with negative emotions. The use of advertisements such as this will elicit feelings of guilt and shame of drug use, which can be built upon making drug use less appealing to possible and even current
