Jerry Brown said the state was facing perhaps "the worst drought that California has ever seen since records (began) about 100 years ago. " The United States spends billions of dollars per year treating water; however, we only use 10 percent for drinking and cooking. The pros of using treated waste water for drinking water and agriculture: conserve our fresh water resources, replenishes sensitive ecosystems where wildlife and plants are vulnerable, and help ease water shortages. Moreover, it decreases wastewater discharges and may reduce and prevent pollution. Yet, by doing so there are cons that cannot be denied such as, the increase of cost for infrastructure treatment facilities and extra pipes to control it and finally public perception.…

One major factor of the Dust Bowl is drought (DocE) the reason for this is because of how dry the topsoil got due to such droughts. In the document you will see the ratio between how much precipitation is needed and how much actually fell, to grow plants. The percentage of snow has been decreasing each year. A press conference was held to inform the public of Governor Brown’s executive decision to restrict urban water use by twenty-five percent. Sadly, each year the mountain snowfall in Colorado decreases and the summer temperatures get higher evaporating the water. (Thebaut, J. 2008). The stress of losing this much water at a time will change energy and agricultural productions. Nevertheless, this is not the first time a drought has affected people in the southwest. About 800 years ago, tens of thousands of Native people were forced to leave their homes because of the lack of water.…

Little to no precipitation can cause drought. Many native plants go through a process called thermoperiodism because Kansas experiences different periods of extreme weather. Plants in Kansas tend to be tolerant of most conditions, some more than others. There are drought resistant plants located in the park, shown in the table made by Holly Dickman shows a list of drought tolerant plant materials found in northwest Kansas. Although the site is in northeast Kansas, the plants do not vary enough for a separate list.…

Due to the lack of water people are pumping water out of the ground very quickly. Taking this much water out of the ground has some natural effects. In the article, “Why the California Drought is Affecting Everyone”by Katharine Mieszkowski she states “In some areas of the state, the groundwater has become so overtaxed that the earth is literally sinking. Between 2008 and 2011, parts of the Central Valley subsided more than 2 feet.” People are pumping so much water out of the ground, that the ground is sinking.…

I interpreted Jenna Craig's' statement as how it was problematic for everyone to make changes in their days to withstand the drought, and how everyone had to learn to adapt to the changes in having a reduced water supply. One of three of my peers, Edward Lozano, quoted from Jenna Craig," the estuarine habitat and wetland of Matagorda Bay is one of Texas' most treasured fishing spots. " What Edward did was connect the quote he chose to a personal experience and tied it in with his life by sharing that we has gone fishing their at Matagorda Bay and could not imagine it being threatened by a diminished water supply. I interpreted this quote on how the environment was affected by the drought, though it…

Imagine being sent on a scientific expedition to explore the Star Wars planet of Tatooine, and you need to provide a detailed account of what you encounter. The description given would probably say something about the harshness of the desert and liken it to a wasteland. As a matter of fact, you could find a more detailed description of the planet by reading a report of the American west made in the year 1806. In that year American explorer Lt. Zebulon Montgomery Pike, was sent on an expedition to survey the newly purchased Louisiana Territory where he traversed up the uncharted Arkansas River into what is present day Colorado. After pike returned from the expedition, he published a journal of his expedition giving the world the first written…

Drought is a temporary aberration; it differs from aridity, which is restricted to low rainfall regions and is a permanent feature of climate. Droughts are categorized as meteorological, hydrological, and agricultural (World Bank, 2005). The word ‘drought’ indicates scarcity of water for ecosystems, land and human use, resulting in failing crops, livestock, livelihoods and human health. The table 1.1 indicates that the total Districts declared Drought affected during the period of 2015-6.…
