According to the Office of Privacy Commissioner of Canada, the word “drone” is a catch-all term that refers to any vehicle that can operate on surfaces or in the air without a person on board to control it. UAV’s are what some drones are called. UAV stands for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. These devices can vary in shape, size, speed, form, and a whole host of other attributes that contribute to what makes up the drone. A drone can be a model aircraft someone purchases in a store, a mini-helicopter used by some police forces, or a large plane-sized aircraft sent to a war zone. They can hover mid-air, do backflips and spin. These devices are capable of moving precisely and smoothly. All the things they do happen with a stabilized camera …show more content…
This type of drone can stay up in the air for more than 24 hours and can fly as high as 19,500 feet. Small fixed-wing aircrafts are starting to be used by local law enforcement. An example of a small fixed-wing aircraft is the Boeing ScanEagle, which is pictured below. According to Boeing.com, the US Navy signed a $14.5 million contract with Boeing to provide this intelligence in April 2005. The next type of drone is a micro-UAV. This is the type of drone that hobbyists use. They are designed to be portable and used by one person. An example of a micro-UAV is the DraganFlyer X6, which is pictured below. According to HeliFreak.com, the DraganFlyer X6 has a price that ranges from $14,000 to $30,000. Biometric UAVs are the next type of drone. These are drones that are meant to imitate naturally-occurring animals or plants. An example of this is AeroVironment’s Nano Hummingbird, which is pictured below. According to smh.com.au, the Pentagon has paid $4 million to use this drone to spy on citizens. The last time of drones are blimps and balloons. These blimps and balloons typically just sit up in the sky for an extended period of time and are used to observe the Earth. These are typically used at the United States-Mexican border. Below is a picture from one of the blimp drones sitting above the United States-Mexico border.

Many companies are already using drones and will continue to do so in the future. Disney is one major company that plans on using drones in the future. According to Gizmag, there is talk that they will deploy unmanned aerial vehicles to control large marionettes, along with replacing fireworks and suspend floating displays during theme park shows. The first patent application that Disney has designed is called Aerial Display System with Floating Pixels, which consists of a ground station module that processes flight paths of a fleet of UAVS, which each are armed with a propulsion device and display
