Drones And The Fight Against Terrorism

Are drones really as good as the government makes them out to be? The number of drones being built in the U.S. and deployed in other countries has increased dramatically since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. They have been very effective in the fight against terrorism. Along with being effective, building and deploying a drone is significantly cheaper than fighting a traditional war. The U.S. Drone Program is helping the fight against terrorism because drones are effective at reducing the terrorist threat and inexpensive compared to fighting a traditional war. One reason why drones are helping the fight against terrorism is because of their effectiveness. Their missiles and firepower are also very precise so their ability to take out terrorist threats is superior to a manned vehicle such as a jet. So is the drone program actually weakening Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations? Dylan Matthews thinks it is. In the article, “Everything you need to know about drones,” he states, “New America estimates that 1,967 - 3,236 militants were killed in Pakistan and Yemen, meaning the overwhelming majority of casualties were intended targets. That said, the share of deaths who were "high-profile targets" was 11 percent under Obama and 33 percent under Bush according to New America.” The amount of militants and high priority targets killed in drone attacks is nothing to look past; they are accomplishing what is needed to be done to help eliminate the war against terrorism.
