Drone Strikes Research Paper

Drones may seem like a harmless synonym for an aircraft in America, but it sends shivers down the backs of many average people in Pakistan and Afghanistan. With the rising use of U.S. drone use in the Middle East, more concern is placed with the welfare of many individuals placed in harm's way because of these strikes. In total, the U.S. has about 7,000 active drones (Stroke Fact Sheet). Although not all of these unmanned vehicles will be flown in Pakistan and Afghanistan, a majority of active strikes occur in those countries. Over 4,000 people have been killed by drones in the Middle East by U.S. drones in recent years (Stroke fact Sheet). The U.S. Government plans on spending 40 billion dollars in the next decade on drone production. The U.S. is heavily invested in this industry with more than 400 billion dollars invested already. Drone strikes are now becoming popular because of the extremely low cost and efficiency. Because of these newly implemented use of drones in the Middle East, the risk to U.S. soldiers has decreased dramatically. Drone strikes offer a new form of warfare in which fewer American lives are at risk, and low collateral damage. Although drone strikes are often advertised as killing thousands of innocent people, this method produces fewer civilian casualties than other methods. But even so, a staggering number of civilians are killed without a second glance. Because of these numerous deaths, this topic has become more controversial. These strikes are known to have a high civilian casualty rate, with some of the strikes containing 90% civilian casualties (Fang, Marina).
