Did you know that approximately 90% of traffic accidents are caused from driver error? That means that 90% of traffic accidents are caused from people not paying attention to his or her surrounding and being prepared for anything to happen. That also means that you can easily reduce the amount of traffic incidents by just simply driving defensively. You’re probably wondering what I mean by driving defensively, right? Driving defensively means that you are very aware of your surrounds and prepared for anything to happen. The first and foremost defensive driving technique is thinking about safety first. You want to keep away from aggressive and distractive driving trends. This means you should avoid eating, texting, or reading while driving. These are all distractions that put you at high risk for an accident. You should lock your doors and wear your seatbelt to protect you from being thrown out of the vehicle in the case of an accident. Incorporating all of this into your driving will put you in a much better position to be able to deal with the bad driving of other people. …show more content…
You should be checking your mirror frequently for threats behind you as well as scanning conditions 20 to 30 seconds in front of you. If you spot a vehicle showing signs of aggressive driving you should slow down or pull over to avoid it. If it is a super dangerous situation you should try to get off the roadway. Having an escape route is your best option for staying away from potential dangers on the road. You want to position your vehicle so that others can see you well, and you can see others well. You should always have an alternate route in case your immediate route of travel was blocked. You also want to watch out for pedestrians, bicyclists, and pets on the
