Driver's Ed-Personal Narrative

Improved Essays
As I turned fifteen last year, I was excited to begin Driver’s Ed, so that I could start driving. On the first day of Driver’s Ed, I arrived slightly early. In fact, I arrived two hours before my class was even supposed to begin. As I walked in, the instructor, Gene, gave me a confused and angry look. Now before I continue, I must ask, who the f*** names their child Gene? Now getting back to my story, I was already nervous because it was my first day of Driver’s Ed, but what unnerved me even more was Gene’s face as I walked in. Now, Gene is an old, white man that you would probably see at a playground in a white van, so you can only imagine how I felt when he gave me an angry grimace. Turns out, my mom had made a HUGE mistake, thinking that my class began at 4:00, when it really began at 6:00. What makes the situation worse, is the …show more content…
I didn't want to have an awkward conversation with Gene, so I avoided being alone with him. The next day, he gave us sign-up slips for driving lessons. I was pleased to hear that I would not have to drive with Gene during those lessons. So, for the next two weeks I patiently waited for my driving lesson. During those two weeks, I would constantly catch Gene uncomfortably staring at me while I was looking away. Eventually, the day that I would finally drive approached. I frantically waited beside my window as I waited for a car to pick me up. Suddenly, a 2006 Honda Accord pulled into my driveway. I quickly ran outside and got into the driver’s seat of the car. The lady inside the car was very kind. She calmly told me to pull out the driveway. This was it, the moment that I would finally drive. Suddenly, I remembered all the videos and lessons that Gene had shown us. I comfortably reversed out of my driveway and began driving. For driving for tithe first time, I impressed by how easily I was able to drive. I realized that if not for Gene, I would be a terrible driver, so I was

The thought of getting behind the wheel seemed like far too much responsibility. While waiting for my mom to drive me anywhere was a somewhat aggravating loss of freedom, I felt I needed more time before I went back to piloting heavy machinery. I felt obligated to act almost as I had when I was first getting my license- I even spent awhile only driving with one of my parents in the passenger seat. At first, I was screaming internally from the moment I put the key in the ignition to the moment I parked it at my destination. Changing lanes made me very anxious, I saw all cars as threats (actually I still do), and unprotected left hand turns came close to actually frightening me.…

Well I'm saying that if you more experienced than you will be a better driver than a 18 year old who had just got their licence. “Turning 16 does not instantly make someone a safer driver,” says Peter Kissinger they talk about experience being the main key of being a better driver, if they were to start learning how to drive at 14 and were on the roads by 16 they would be better than a 16 year old who just got their licence because they turn 16. ¨The second study examined crash rates in New Jersey, which has a minimum age of 17 for unsupervised driving and is the only state in the country to have a comprehensive GDL program for all new drivers up to age 21.…
