One of the main advantages of the full implementation of driverless cars would be that such implementation could help improve public safety. Outwardly, the thought of driverless cars is benign and beneficial. Automotive accidents are still one of the leading cause of deaths …show more content…
Driverless cars are equipped with sensors, software, and computers that give it all the information it needs to keep the passengers in the car safe. This information prevents accidents by scanning the surroundings and then adjusting the speed and other factors that will reduce the instance of an accident. Driverless cars will save many lives and gives other a chance to get behind the wheel again. People with disabilities, children or elderly can now own a car that they don’t have to drive. The point of the driverless car is safety. Have a car on the road that drives itself will keep other safe. It will also reduce speeding and other factors that lead to accidents. According to Tan (2017), Singapore's petrol consumption is rising with a 3% increase from 2016 despite a shrinking vehicle population. Driverless cars would improve fuel consumption due to the judgments of the software being more accurate and calculated than human …show more content…
If a driverless car were to encounter a standard vehicle with a driver in a state of road rage, then it is unclear what the result would be. At the very least, the prediction can be made that no mathematical algorithms on the part of the driverless car would truly be able to predict how the situation will in fact develop. Au (2017) argues that robots and humans would lead to two outcomes, “Passengers in driverless cars take forever to get anywhere” (para 19) and, “Driverless cars become some of the most competitive, hyper-aggressive robots known to man…” (para
