Driverless vehicles used to be a concept only possible in a science-fiction film, but now it soon revolutionises the transportation industry. Singapore has been no stranger to the concept, being the first country in the world to implement on demand driverless taxis (Abdullah, 2016). The notion of driverless cars would proliferate and soon become a leading technological advancement. Hence, it is worth examining the prospects and extent of driverless cars in greater detail.

Driverless cars are equipped with sensors, software, and computers that give it all the information it needs to keep the passengers in the car safe. This information prevents accidents by scanning the surroundings and then adjusting the speed and other factors that will reduce the instance of an accident. Driverless cars will save many lives and gives other a chance to get behind the wheel again. People with disabilities, children or elderly can now own a car that they don’t have to drive. The point of the driverless car is safety. Have a car on the road that drives itself will keep other safe. It will also reduce speeding and other factors that lead to accidents. According to Tan (2017), Singapore's petrol consumption is rising with a 3% increase from 2016 despite a shrinking vehicle population.
