Drive Home Observation

Today began at The Evergreen State College parking lot at 8:43 a.m. where I met the rest of the class in front of the vans. At this time, the weather was extremely cloudy/foggy and 55 F. As I looked around the parking lot, I noted some spring flowers (I believe to be camas) beginning to bloom, clover, dandelions and numerous buds chirping.
We left campus by 9:05 a.m. and from there we headed towards the Seattle History Museum with the goal of learning more about the Pacific Northwest’s history and get some nice sunshine while we were at it. Throughout the drive, I took observations every 15 minutes; at 9:20 a.m. we passed the Marvin Rd exit in Lacey, at 9:35 a.m. we passed Joint Base Lewis-McChord, at 9:50 a.m. the vans entered King County, at 10:05 a.m. we passed Boeing Field, at 10:20 a.m. we began to hit traffic as we passed Century Link Field and by 10:30 we arrived to the museum. and from there I headed home. The drive home tonight was quite interesting to say the least. As I was on the freeway heading south on I5 the big rainstorm hit which made it difficult to drive through. By the time I made it to exit 101 onto Tumwater Blvd the traffic began to get really bad. From Tumwater Blvd, I then turned onto Old Hwy 99 which was completely backed up due to road closures. I then had to turn onto 88th Ave to attempt to go around the blocked road to find yet another closure on 93rd Ave. From there, I backtracked through Tumwater and took Henderson Blvd to get to Yelm Hwy which was also partially closed. Next I decided to go through Rich Rd which was in very bad shape with powerlines on the road. I made it all the way to the train tracks on Rich Rd to find yet another closure. I then turned around and took Fir Tree Rd up to Rainier Rd and finally found a clear path to my house from there. I finally arrive back home at 7:33 which was about, in total it took me 3 hours to get home on a drive that normally takes 25

Many people believe that Eastern Oregon is void of beauty. The mountains are bare and the air is dry. However, if these folks would follow me to the Snake River for a fishing trip, I think they’d change their minds.
