Drinking and Driving Article Review On August 30, 2014, Labor Day weekend, a tragic car crash occurred in Olney, Maryland. According to the 911 call, a Chrysler convertible crashed into a large tree off of Hines road in Olney, MD. After the initial impact, the car finally came to a stop on a grassy patch close to the Norbeck Hills Pool. The car was driven by seventeen-year old Austin Hall. No other car was involved in the accident. The teenage driver, under the influence of alcohol, lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the tree. According to the news article, the car was traveling at 119 MPH (Lewis). As a result of the accident, one teenager lost his life, another suffered life-threatening injuries to the neck and head, while the driver was not as seriously hurt.

Another key factor that probably led to the drunkenness is peer pressure to drink. They were at a party, there was alcohol available, there was no adult supervision, and other friends were drinking. Austin Hall gave in to the temptation and peer pressure and got drunk. The next big factor that contributed to the crash was that the driver thought he could drive the car normally even though he had consumed a number of drinks, enough to raise his BAC above the legal limit. The high speed of the car was yet another significant factor that contributed to the severity of the accident.
