Teens have some major issues away from doing drugs and drinking alcohol. In the the united states “In 2014 71% of all deaths among persons aged 10-24 years resulted from 4 causes: motor vehicle crashes (23%), Unintentional injuries (17%), Homicide (14%), Suicide (17%). Among persons aged 15-19 273,105 births; 451,208 cases of chlamydia,Gonorrhea, and, Syphilis; and 1,828 cases of HIV’s.” As these statistics show teens are at the point when they are at the most risk of the most problems and injuries around the age of 15. Although teens aren’t stupid they are at the most risk because of they are most prone to being swayed by addiction, not only to illicit substances but to things like relationships and pornography. In the 2015 YRBS survey it was found that 41% of the 61.3% of teens that participated in the survey that had driven a car in the last 30 days said they had been under the influence of alcohol and 21.7% had used marijuana while driving. These numbers are only the ones that were caught in the act. Any of these teens could have killed someone by driving under the influence. Every year teens are killed in illicit substance based crashes, many are not even their fault but they are killed all the same. Teens are the biggest percentage of motor vehicle crashes each year with over 40 percent of crashes being caused from someone aged 16 to 26. Much of the drug related crimes are from this same age group as well. With over 45 percent of drug related crimes being from the age group of 16 to 26. Major issues in society are coming out of the teen drug craze. Many are things like mental issues and health concerns. Some of the most major things can be split into 4 major groups. Since the early 90’s it has been on the rise in popularity and sales and with commercials and alleged health benefits it is a multi-billion dollar industry that is using the same sales plays as the tobacco industry. Although it has been proved that marijuana hurts the brain and slows down mental reaction time it is still thought to be a medical super plant. Just the smuggling alone is a 300 million dollar industry and this is slowly on the rise every year with more and more states legalizing it for recreational purposes as well as medical purposes. Even in Idaho where it is illegal to have marijuana teens are discovering it is easier and easier to get it and conceal it even going as far as smoking it in local high school bathrooms because they have no worry of being caught or getting into much trouble if caught. New regulations are being put into place by police forces around the country such as the implementation of taking drug dogs through high schools and random car checks for drugs.
