Cash Baker Mrs. Marinelli Composition 2 21 February 2018 Rhetorical Analysis The essay “Amethyst Initiatives Debate on Drinking, A Welcome Alternative To Fanaticism,” proves to have a few effective arguments while others are ineffective. The author, Radley Balko wrote the essay to address the argument on whether the drinking age should be lowered or not. He writes to the opposing side to share new found evidence on why the drinking age could and should get lowered. He even admits that no one wants to support teen drinking, but with new evidence he shows his support.…
Another author who also supports not changing the drinking age is Tara Watson. She has earned her credibility as a chairwoman in Public Health as well as an associate in an econonmic health program. Unlike Carpenter, Watson’s inductive report has verifiable data. Her information justifys her reasoning as well as gives the reader more information about the affects of alcohol. Watson also takes it one step further by including the opposing sides argument which states, “It is unpopular among most young adults; it arguably encourages underground binge drinking; enforcement is a complete failure on college campuses.…
My final point is state funding and safer highways. A portion of our highway funding will be lost by lowering the drinking age to 18. About 90% of teenagers would choose getting their license over drinking legally any day. If we lower the drinking age then the driving age will go up. There has been a major drop in teenage drunk driving deaths since the age has been…
In 1984, the federal drinking age was raised to twenty- one. Since that time, there have been many positive results, such as reduction in some college students who engage in active binge drinking. However, there have also been some negative effects. As over 100 college presidents who favor reconsidering the federal drinking age point out, many college students engage in binge drinking as a way of rebelling against the twenty-one age barrier. The presidents also point out that most college students who engage in drinking are under twenty-one years hence it can be argued that they are just rebellious.…
Nathanael Price Mrs. Jackson Writing 25 Sept. 2015 Drinking Ages The second ranked most watched sport in the United States was started thanks to young bootleggers carrying illegal moonshine. Yes, NASCAR was born from families like the Hatfield and McCoy’s to the Dukes of Hazard, who modified their carts or cars to outwit and outrun the police. In most states the legal purchasing/drinking age in the US has been twenty-one ever since the ratification of the twenty-first amendment. The legal drinking age should be lowered to eighteen, because in today’s culture when one turns eighteen kids are expected to be adults.…
colleges and universities around the united states think that the drinking age should be lowered to 18. they said it should be lowered because they think that outlawing alcohol for 18 year olds is making the problem worse. these colleges and universities say that allowing alcohol consumption at the age of 18 might decrease the death rate from alcohol. If you are over the age of 18 you are considered an adult and have to act like one. If you look at the countries that have the drinking age at 18 then you would see that there is less accidents, less parties, no students are leaving their classes to go get drunk because when it is lowered to 18 than no teenager has to hide it.…
Binge drinking, the consumption of an excessive amount of alcohol during a short period of time, is a very dangerous situation that many college students participate in before going out to a party because of the fact that they cannot legally purchase alcohol while they are out. Abba argues that If the drinking age were lowered to 18, the majority of college students would be able to purchase alcohol while out, lessening the pressure to have to get drunk beforehand. This would also give students the ability to spread out their alcoholic intake throughout the night and allow them to drink in more controlled environments with security present. While this point is quite accurate it does not completely solve the problem at hand, instead, it just would encourage the consumption of alcohol. College students are not the only underage people that choose to drink, in fact, a study found that 25 percent of eighth-grade students, 40 percent of tenth-grade students, and 53 percent of high school seniors have consumed alcohol(Marcovitz).…
The three topics I will be talking about in this paper will be traffic related accidents, sexual dangers, and college campus dangers. There are many stories about teenagers drinking underage. Even if the drinking age dropped to eighteen from twenty-one do you think that would fix the problem?…
One debated solution to stop underage drinking is to lower the drinking age from twenty-one to eighteen. Lowering the dinking age would obviously lower the number of incidents of underage drinking on college campuses, because most students…
Hundreds of teens have been injured or died each year for underage drinking and driving. The alcohol age should not be lowered to 18, it needs to remain at 21 in order to protect teens from hurting themselves. Many young teens are experiencing the issues of drinking too much, and because of this, underage drinking is a leading public health problem. Some studies show that young people who drink put themselves at risk for potential health problems. About 5,000 people under the age of 21 die because of underage drinking (“Why”).…
A. Attention Getter: Most of us are considered as a legal adult, we can vote, smoke, get married, join the military – which includes risking one’s life. B. Relevancy: We can also drink; or should I say, you guys can drink. In my case, to legally drink at USA I need to be 21 years old. C. Credibility: I admit to have drunk alcoholics drinks before.…
Every few seconds a teen dies from an alcohol related situation. According to the article,”Alcohol- related car crashes, homicides, suicides, alcohol poisoning, and other injuries, such as falls burns and drowning”( “Underaged-Drinking”).Newly legal adults hold an ample amount of accidents that happen already. Why would we accumulate the risk of accidents by depreciating the drinking age? In chance, there will inhabit a risk of exposing illegal habits to younger drinkers. The drinking age should not be lowered because of the negative effects to a person's lifestyle.…
Drinking age should be lowered to the age of 18 There is no taboo subject in America quote like underage drinking. The principal problem is not the age of drinking, but the hidden binge side of it. When it comes to the law, there is always an opinion. A reform should be made about the age of drinking for numerous reasons in my personal viewpoint.…
Eighteen is considered adulthood, yet, at this age one is still not treated as such. When one turns eighteen, they become a legal adult, and receive their rights, except the right to consume alcohol legally. The drinking age in the United States is currently set at twenty-one. But, some people believe that twenty-one is too high for the minimum age and, think it should be lower. There are others who feel that twenty-one is a decent, mature age, and lowering it would encourage young to take part in alcohol consumption.…
The Alcohol Drinking Age Should be Increased The idea of raising the alcoholic drinking age protects young people. Indeed they are still incapable of accepting responsibilities included in the drinking of alcohol. In fact, according to DO SOMETHING.org, 5,000 people under the age of twenty-one die each year from alcohol-related car crashes, homicides, suicides, alcohol poisoning, and other injuries such as falls, burns, and drowning.…
