Drilling In National Parks

Improved Essays
President Donald Trump often does things without putting much thought into the consequences; however, after donating $78,000 to The National Park Service, he “celebrates national parks” by “[proclaiming] April 15-23 National Park Week” (D’Angelo). He even made it his first concern “to protect these magnificent lands” (D’Angelo). Although this may seem as lots of money, it is actually not enough for the parks. To make matters worse, the president signed an executive order allowing gas companies to drill for oil in the national parks. Many believe that drilling in parks “should just not be a priority” and everyone should focus more on preserving the parks (D’Angelo). There are many other ways to obtain energy and oil is one of the environment

In a foreword to Subhankar Banerjee's book, former President Jimmy Carter makes an argument against allowing drilling and industrial activity in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. In his defence of his position, Carter effectively uses a combination of factual evidence, style, and appeals to emotion to persuade the reader of his ideas. Carter starts the foreword off by describing a time when he went to the Arctic Refuge with his wife, and recounting all of the Refuge's natural beauty, from the "brilliant mosaic" of plant life to the "spectacle" of caribou migration. This use of imagery helps create the feeling that the Arctic Refuge is sacred and beautiful, and therefore deserving of protection; this is a form of emotional appeal; his description of this in the form of a narrative also makes him feel more genuine and relatable.…

Headlines are the most important factor on a newspaper page. Two shocking statistics were noted in the chapter nine reading that backup why a headline is necessary. A study done by The Readership Institute recorded on average, readers spend only about 26 minutes a day reading a Monday- Friday print newspaper. And according to the Nielsen Analysis, reported in the 2010 State of the News Media report, users of the top 20 news websites spend only 3 minutes and 4 seconds per visit. Because so little time is spent reading newspapers and online websites, the headline gives most readers the information of the entire news story.…
