“Drift Away” brings back an awesome memory! Greg, my sister Val and I were on our way to visit my Dad who had recently purchased a retirement house in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This was our very first visit to that area. We came to a full stop on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel due to construction. We were already jamin’ to some good tunes and really having a great time driving! “Drift Away” came on the radio. We put the windows were down cranked up the radio, started singing at the top of our lungs while clapping along to the music. We didn’t have a care in the world! Whenever I hear this song, I immediately get the biggest smile on my face because it makes me think of what a blast we had on that trip to the OBX. Nagshead, NC and

At the time I was thinking it was a good song, but as the years start passing by the song started hitting me in personal ways. Life shouldn't be taken for granted, and should be fulfilled with everything you have ever wanted.…

Elliot Mazer suggested that Young, the founding member of Buffalo Springfield and member of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, record it with him at Quad Studios. Mazer quickly assembled a studio band that consisted of Kenny Buttrey, Tim Drummond, Ben Keith, and Jack Nitzche along with “back-up vocalists,” Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor, to record Young’s quintessential and ground-breaking album, Harvest. The 1972 release featured two top-selling singles and Young mainstays, “Heart of Gold” and “Old Man.” “Heart of Gold” is Neil Young’s only number one single.…

English Essay 1 Daniel Akst begins his essay “Thrift: The Rebirth of a Forgotten Virtue” by using legendary television show host, Jack Benny’s as an example of his cheapness to show how the term “thrift” has had a negative connotation for years. He then continues to inform the readers of the outstanding national debt American household have accumulated since 1980. The kind of “thrift” that Akst is referring to is the action of not spending money (Akst 510). Akst describes spenders as the people who are embarrassed to thrift and simply flaunt their money.…

The first time I heard Riptide by Vance Joy I knew I would love it. From the opening strum of the ukulele to the nonsensical lyrics, the entire song connected with my lighthearted nature, but I could never have guessed how important the song would become to me. I spent the summer after ninth grade at a debate camp in Austin. I happened to be one of the youngest people there, so I tried to keep quiet, hoping not to make a fool of myself. Thus, over the first week I did not make many friends.…

Everyone one of you sitting in those desks are apart of this generation of pioneers and apart of the generation that will be one of the most innovative in history. Essentially all of you are going to be the trailblazers of the new entrepreneurial reconstruction, cultural metamorphosis, and an enormous technological evolution which will continue as we get older and as we exist in this great day and age. However, few are aware or are skeptical of the transformation that is happening in the United States as we speak. To prevent any further confusion I am going to define the basis of the resolution and several terms that may draw confusion. What you all are going to witness is why our generation which I narrowed down to the people born from 1998-2001 specifically, as this will be the generation that breaks the most barriers, changes the culture and essentially acts as trailblazers for and makes opportunities for others younger than us to capitalize on what we’ve created.…

When I was just a toddler, I would try to climb in the dishwasher and take everything out while mom was trying to do the dishes. In order to keep me from doing that, dad needed to play video games as long as they entranced me. One of the games he played was The Legend of Zelda. Growing up with this game and spending time with my dad while he played it fueled the love I developed for this game and it’s music. The first four songs on the soundtrack of my life, composed by Koji Kondo, are songs from that video game.…

When it comes down to the songs that will play in the movie of my life, these songs would be dramatic. Every song would have a different meaning, and more attention, destruct and love in it than the last. There are certain songs that are more committed to a certain time or event that has happened. Some are due to it being the song we sang when at the time, some being the lyrics that stuck years later yet most are because of the feeling when the song is first heard. Going as far back that I can remember, most of the songs that I would hear would be on the car rides to school or camp.…
