Drh Holmes Accomplishments

Do you have a talent or a calling in something? Maybe you’re a really good singer, or you very musically inclined. Do you do sports? Are you a gymnast, cheerleader, softball player, dancer, or any other sport? Maybe you’re a write or a photographer? Now, when you do these certain activities have you ever chosen these things? You never asked to be flexible so you could do gymnastics or dance. You never asked to have a great imagination so you could be a writer. You never asked to have certain abilities to be able to do these things. So, do you think that Dr. H. H. Holmes was correct when he said “ I was born with the devil in me, I could not help the fact that I was a murderer, no more than a poet can help the inspiration to sing.”

Personally, I’m a bit undecided on this topic. Dr. H. H Holmes has a point because if some people can’t help their talents or calling with things like sports or instruments then why would it be any different for other things like being a murderer….just because it’s evil and not good? Now, I’m not saying murder is okay and I definitely believe that everyone has control of their actions but there are some exceptions. We have to look at certain factors that could affect this.

Now, you can’t control what type of family or childhood you have and you can’t control if you have a mental illness or not but you can do things to help. You can get therapy and medication for your illness or surround yourself with positive people and focus on the future instead of focusing on the past. Also, just because you have an interest in something doesn’t necessarily mean you have to pursue it. I’ve always wanted to be a gymnast and I actually used to do a little bit of gymnastics at home but I just decided I didn’t really want to do it in a competitive way so I just continued to do it for fun at

The Devil in the White City, by Erik Larson, and “It’s a Question…” by Tom Stafford both answered the universal question of whether humans are born good or bad. The Devil in the White City is about a killer’s mentality and mindset being bought to justice. “It’s a Question…” is about researchers who ultimately determine whether humans “have a basically good nature that is corrupted by society, or a basically bad nature that is kept in check by society. ( IAW, 3-4)” H.H. Holmes in The Devil in the White City was a psychotic serial killer who was undeniably twisted and evil to the core.…

If anyone ever asked me what my favorite memory from high school was, it would most likely be related to twirling a flag in my school’s flagline. Even though the band members constantly denied us from actually being in the band, I always thought we made a great addition to the marching band and added a little extra spunk to it! I was on flagline throughout all my four years in high school. In fact, I was a natural at twirling and I was the only freshman who made the line my first year! I was a leader to my fellow twirlers and then became the captain during my senior year.…

My Own Cultural Clash All parents have high hopes for their children, they want them to become a: lawyer, doctor, engineer, or something along those lines, most adults just want their children to be successful. My career was practically chosen for me as early as the 3rd grade. I stood above everyone in the crowd, literally, I was 5’4”. I’m tall and black, so everyone had assumed I was either heavily into some kind of popular sport, but stereotypically the question I was most frequently asked is “Do you play basketball?”. What made it even worse is that my mom expected to me play basketball, in fact that’s what she would tell my whole family.…

The justice system today has its faults when it comes to the prosecution of convicted felons. Even though it does have influence on the structure of America, some systems have their flaws. Eagleman presents the issue of criminals, who undergo mental illness causing them to become violent, are convicted wrongly in the system. I agree to a certain extent to Eagleman's proposal on the justice system, who also creates a solution to the issue. There are some criminals convicted of crimes that have mental illness, that do not give them the free will of their actions.…

The roar of the engine sends my heart racing as I pull out on to the track, one lap around and we are off, trucks at my side as we glide around the turns. The slick dirt pulling my back end around I move my hands, my automatic controls, the only thing keeping me from spinning out. It’s funny really because clichés aren’t my thing, however, at times idioms are just the thing to describe a situation or time period in one’s life, for instance the saying that “life is a roller coaster” couldn’t be more fitting for my life. The ups and downs, the highs and the lows, the twists and turns, life is just one big adrenaline rush and at times I feel I’m a junking, addicted to life.…

    H. H. Holmes was one of America’s first serial killers who killed up to two hundred in Chicago by luring his victims to his “hotel” while keeping everyone 's suspicion low by telling very convincing lies. He killed these people in a building he advertised as the World’s Fair Hotel. It was not a hotel but an intricate murder castle filled with different ways to kill his victims. Holmes was always interested in medicine and implicated that later in life. He was eventually arrested while trying to scam a life insurance policy out of thousands of dollars.…

Many people believe that mentally ill is something you became rather than something you are from the beginning; the idea that children may suffer from a mental illness must mean that something terrible has happened to speed a younger person toward this because it could not have been there all along. But if we recognize that mental illness is something that can affect a person at any age, even without any distinguishable trauma or environmental trigger, might we be able steer a child toward health just as piano lessons can steer a child toward skill? In exploring this idea and some of the challenges facing child mental health, I spoke with Carnation Elementary School counselor, Leanna Koenigs I asked Ms. Koenigs what her expectations were going into mental health.…

Everyone has a special talent or ability, my talent is drawing. I wasn’t born an artist or particularly skilled at all, but I knew from a young age that talents are what set us apart from others and make us unique. In elementary and through middle school, I was encouraged by my teachers and parents to find my talent or interest. However, nothing genuinely interested me and I didn’t consider myself talented. Though I hadn’t found my talent ,by the start of middle school, if not earlier, the people close to me had found their talents or interests and they began to pursue it.…
