Love them or hate them, we are all familiar with dress codes. Some say that they minimize distractions, others say that they minimize creativity. Whether you like it or not, I will throw my hat into the ring, and talk of why I think dress codes are unhealthy for school environments. Shockingly, there is a lot of evidence that supports the claim that dress codes are negative. Dress codes have lost their use, target teenage girls more than boys, and don’t teach kids responsibility.
My first point is that dress codes have lost their use. As people become more able to express their opinions and creativity, dress codes become more null and void. Dress codes were originally used so that teens wouldn’t wear inappropriate or informal clothing.
