Dress Code Persuasive Speech

Improved Essays
Hello today I will be talking about dress code. I believe we deserve the right to dress however we want. The thing that sucks the most is that girls are the ones that get mostly dress coded than boys. The only things boys can get dress coded for is if they wear a California shirt or a plain blue or red while girls get dress coded for off the shoulder tops or anything too short. The thing is there are many things girls can get in trouble for wearing. So my purpose in this speech is too argue about dress code and how we shouldn’t have any.

Do you ever notice that the more we get to finishing high school the more dress code rules there are? Well just because a couple of students wear something that violates some rules they ban it forever. That is not fair because it’s not like everyone is gonna be a gangster just because they were a shirt that they wear. My point is to tell you that there is no need for dress code because it can cause protests and students don’t listen anyway and they go and do whatever they want. Some students know the consequences but they still do it anyways because they don’t care if they get in trouble so what’s the point in having dress code we lal deserve to wear what we want.

Girls are the ones who get mostly in trouble for showing too much “skin”. I understand when we wear a transparent shirt that shows cleavage but off the shoulder tops doesn’t show cleavage only your shoulder and apparently we turn guys on my wearing off the shoulder tops. We wear off the shoulder tops to look nice not to turn guys on but yet we get sent to the office because we are a distraction to boys in our school. Another thing girls get dress coded by is wearing strapless sandals or more like jesus sandals. They don’t let us wear what we want and mostly get sent to the

I have decided to write this journal article on an article that I found online that speaks directly to experiences that I had throughout middle school and high school. The article is titled, “The Sexism of School Dress Codes”. A young girl named Maggie Sunseri noticed that the dress codes in her school were geared more directly to girls than it was to boys. At first, Maggie rightfully saw this concept to be unfair. The rationale that the administrators gave behind this idea, however, was even more upsetting to Maggie.…

Dress codes standards send home students every day, all over the country, for being too revealing. Most are girls, and on occasions, boys that struggle with the standards, therefore they should be lowered. It’s taking away from your class time, limits self-expression, and the rules can sometimes not be correctly administered are all problems caused by dress codes standards. The dress code can take away from class time because everyone is more concerned with how we are dressed, rather than worrying about if we’ll do good on our next math test, or studying for the history final. During class, teachers can stop their lesson to tell one of their students that they are violating dress codes, therefore taking time away from class and from other students learning for something that is not relevant outside of school.…

The ideas of “boys will be boys” being okay when they refer to the sexualization of girls is rape culture and should not be permitted by superiors at school, a place where student should feel safe (Bates). A reworked dress code that allows for the self-expression of a student, will not deteriorate their self worth, and allow for the double standard be removed so a boys’ education will not be prioritized over a girl…

Especially because it makes female students feel targeted, it sends them a message that they are at fault if they get harassed, and it delivers a letter to females that they are judged/shamed . Wallace said "We need to be teaching the boys (and girls) what appropriate behavior is instead of teaching the girls that they have to cover up to protect themselves from the boys." (Wallace p.1) Wallace is saying that boys are responsible for their own actions and that girls do not need to cover up or else they are distracting boys. Girls should not have to feel bad for their attire because a guy…

Many students get dress coded every year and some are so outrageous that you wonder if the people who sent them home were thinking how can I make this person's day terrible. From students being sent home from clothing violations to percing violations, no matter what it is it affects the student's day. When a student is dress coded they usually go the rest of the day mad or sad so they don’t want to do their work. The students want to be able to wear their own clothes to school and don’t want to have to worry about getting yelled at for their clothing. The idea of school dress codes being sexist and encouraging rape culture has become very popular across school districts. There are stories about protests and strikes all around the country. I have witnessed these “dress code violations” and from what I witnessed, none of these girls were in the wrong. There have been too many times that young ladies get dress coded because what they are wearing is a “distraction” to young men. These boys need to be taught self control and I should not get punished because I was dressing comfortably for the weather.…

Schools all across the country will drop the dress code and place a school uniform. The reasons can be pretty simple, like schools want to reduce bullying by taking out those social bonds, or they don’t want to deal with students breaking one of many dress codes. It sounds like a good idea in a perfect world, but it can cause a lot of damage. Your teenage years are when you are supposed to go through your self-expression stage. With school uniforms can restrict many students with the freedom to express themselves.…

Everyone has their own opinion on what attire is appropriate for school; some people may feel that some of the clothes that the girls wear is “too much”, but what exactly is too much? A majority would say that revealing shoulders and bra straps are inappropriate, but others would think differently. While some of the clothes people wear shouldn’t be worn in a learning environment, society shouldn’t be biased and make a fair dress code for both male and female students because it can make female women students ashamed of their bodies, which is degrading and makes them out to be sexual objects. With male students having the privilege to wear almost whatever they want, it makes females feel like they should cover up their bodies due to the fact that their bodies can distract boys from getting an education.(Since a females education isn’t as important). There has been many incidents where a female student would be taken out of class or sent home because her shoulders were showing or was wearing shorts on a hot day.…

Today students often care more about fashion than getting an education. For many years, people have been arguing about the idea of making school uniforms mandatory. Some schools already require their students to wear uniforms, but others are still deciding whether to make it mandatory or not. Schools that have already implemented this policy have seen the benefits of it. School uniforms should be required because it saves time and lot of money for the parents, reduces peer pressure and bullying, and helps prevent the use of inappropriate clothing in a formal institute.…

    Dress Code Debate Essay

I am writing this proposal in order to provide a solution to a major problem in school dress codes. In all public schools, the dress code is enforced to have students “dress for success.” However, school dress codes, particularly for female students, are far too strict. In most situations, when a student violates dress code, the student is removed from class and held in an office until they are able to change into clothing that better fits the schools standards, or even given detentions or other reprimands.…
