Dress Code or No Code Uniforms verses strict personal clothing policy, highly debatable in and around school grounds igniting conversations across the United States. At Montgomery High School we have a dress code policy that prohibits inappropriate clothing and is punishable by office write-ups. Students across the school criticize our moderately strict dress code complaining it does not allow them to wear the comfortable things they desire. What if these students complaining about not being able to wear leggings had to wear strictly enforced uniforms. Uniforms were first adopted in 1582 for charitable schools to give the less fortunate children something to wear while adding structure to their life (Scott). Now more present than ever, uniforms, meant to eliminate social economical appearance standards, are creating healthier learning environments. “One in five US public schools required students to wear uniforms during the 2013-2014 school year, up from one in eight in 2003-2004”("School Uniforms"). Some believe the true cost of these uniforms could be a student’s personality and freedom of expression. Everyone has a different stance on the subject but the positive impact, physical appearance, and cost, has made school uniforms a prestige and respectable symbol that allows students to focus their time at school on furthering their education.
