Dress Code Debate Essay

I am writing this proposal in order to provide a solution to a major problem in school dress codes. In all public schools, the dress code is enforced to have students “dress for success.” However, school dress codes, particularly for female students, are far too strict. In most situations, when a student violates dress code, the student is removed from class and held in an office until they are able to change into clothing that better fits the schools standards, or even given detentions or other reprimands.
The online blog-spot called World Lifestyle holds an article published in 2014 that discusses this issue. It directly speaks of a public high school in Staten Island named Tottenville. We all know that there have been homosexual males in the boy’s locker room and homosexual females in the girls’ locker room. However, do we ever hear stories of unreciprocated sexual advances in the locker rooms? No, because manners are taught and understood in most situations. However, for some reason, some males cannot with strain themselves around a female who is not covered from head to toe. In some countries, this is taken to the extreme, leaving it illegal for even a woman’s face to be showing. This “norm” should not be a thing. Women should not be discriminated against and men should not be handed the idea that it is okay to treat a woman as a sexual object because of her wardrobe choice. I can promise you, girls do not wear shorts and tank tops for the guys, they wear it because it is hot and they do not want to sweat.
