Dress Code Changes In School

Decent Essays
Changing the girl's dress code would be a highly recommended change. Also a few changes in the boy's dress code would be nice too. If we are buying the clothes we want and plan to wear what's the problem with wearing them to school. It seems like we are spending are money on only weekend clothes. Since we can't wear them during the week at school.

The change in the shorts dress code is that we should be able. To wear shorts how ever short we want them to be. Without having to get sent home, and have your parent/ guardian bring you clothes. Same thing when it comes to the dresses if there above knee they are counted as a short dress. When we wear dress that come to our thigh we can't wear them. That is NOT a distraction

The dress code should be less strict in that we dress to show our personalities and express ourselves. It should also be less derogatory towards female students, because “their bodies will distract the boys,” is a sexist statement claiming that boys will be boys and that girls just need to deal and accept it. Most girls breaking the dress code do not do it for attention, but when they spend money on clothes that have nothing wrong with them they want to wear them. In fact, it is hard to find clothes manufactured to actually fit the “dress code” due to designers conforming to society's new…

There are many differences in school dress codes, for examples in our school, Sunset Ridge Middle School who has 12 different rules, the major being that we are not allowed to wear any articles of clothing that are mutilated, cut-off, or immodest. Stapley Junior High in Mesa, Arizona who only has six rules, are allowed to wear any article of clothing that do not show any straps, see through, or do not cover the entire back. Schools in different states have different dress code rules along with having teachers and administrators who have different interpretations of how they should be. Therefore, we do not know what dress code is the best or most correct for students and should allow the student to have their own decision in what they…

Administration such as Senator Stephenson must immediately send innocent children to the office for this ridiculous blue-coated “Dress-code Violation” attire and pressing suspension to those who wish not to humiliate and embarrass themselves throughout the school day. I say it is downright deliberate intent to embarrass every student in every way possible by their operation of throwing the “Blue Suit” upon us. But certainly, from here on out, Westlake High School Dress-code shall no longer be enforced. We, students of Westlake High School now consider ourselves free to wear as we wish. He has refused to pass other laws on how teachers shouldn’t loosely teach us students without the intent of us learning something, yet he’d rather enforce something less important in a school atmosphere; an interrupted right to wear what we solemnly desire to express ourselves.…

At least 58% of schools in the United States enforce a strict dress code. School dress codes and uniforms in private and public schools can be both helpful and harmful to students in relation to their learning and social skills. Implementing school dress codes has shown to increase concentration in the classroom due to the lack of extreme clothing or hair styles, less peer pressure since everyone has to wear the same clothes, and an increase in school safety. According to Don Woodard, a high school principal in Johnston county, The students’ “demeanor is better and there are fewer distractions because of teasing, or students being uncomfortable because of the apparel that others are wearing.” But they also say it's unconstitutional because schools are taking away students freedom of expression.…

While it is important for students to have guidelines for inappropriate things that should not be worn to school, I found the dress code to be very extreme to the point that it suppressed a students’ individualism. Ever since we started school we’ve had to deal with dress code. However, schools have different rules such as whether you have to wear uniforms or how short your skirts can be. My elementary school required us to wear uniforms and as the years went on the dress code got progressively stricter. When I moved on to high school it wasn’t much better. They would constantly send people to the office to get a change of clothes, but by doing this they also removed students from their classes, making them fall behind.…

Finding shorts that are below fingertip length are harder to find and not as trendy for the average teenager. Spaghetti straps are also not welcome in the schools.…

If the situation is getting out of hand such as when the Albemarle County, Va passed rules towards a new dress code when lawsuits were filed and eventually taken to court where the judge said,”’the dress code is too broad-- and may be unconstitutional’”(Robson para. 6). With a school under these lawsuits and feeling as though their students are wearing inappropriate clothing; the easiest way to handle the situation is to enforce a school uniform. This way all genders are treated equally, the reasoning behind the rules are set in a reasonable manner, and the dress code is easy for everyone to follow. All schools that don't require a certain uniform including Jackson High School should adjust their dress code with the ideas of: the difficulty to follow the dress code, the reasoning behind the dress code, and the inequality of gender treatment. These changes in all schools alike would make the environment so much better for teenage girls constantly on the search for clothes that are, cute, appropriate, and fit their size.…

If my school were to make a change to our dress code I know there would be several items I would want to change. Therefore, if I could change one thing about my schools dress code, I would allow girls to wear bandannas and or headbands because, their hair is an important part to their appearance, girls like to put headbands and or bandannas in their hair to make it look pretty, and they love to keep up with new hair trends.
