One example is that the views of the figure Taney. When he died was viewed as villain in the north but as a supporter in the south and is only recognized as the person who denied a slave his freedom. In addition, he declared that Scott had never been free and continued to be a black slave .This ultimately led to the declaration that the Missouri Compromise of 1820 was unconstitutional and made the Federal Government had no right to prohibit slavery in the new territories. When the case was finally decided the American public reacted strongly to the Dred Scott case. Several groups arose following the case. One Antislavery group feared that slavery would spread unchecked which caused chaos .Also a Republican party was founded 1854 to prohibit the spread of slavery. There political compain led to the division of the democratic party. This led to a huge stepping stone which led to the election of Abraham Lincoln as President of the United States and South Carolina's secession from the Union. The Dred Scott case not only influenced political party’s actions but the election of the president. The country as a whole country pushed the closer and closer to a civil war following these events.
