A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work (Colin Powell). This quote means you can not get your dreams out of thin air you have to work for them. In the story Of Mice and Men characters want a dream and have to work for that dream. Dreams affect the characters from Of Mice and Men through George sacrificing his time for Lennie, Lennie for making bad decisions to get his dream, and Candy by investing his money into the dream. Dreams affect George by him sacrificing his time for Lennie. A quote that shows this is“‘God a’mighty if I was alone I could live so easy’”(Steinbeck 11). This shows that George takes time for Lennie.George takes time for Lennie becasuse if he did not Lennie would be all alone and could not do anything on his own. Another quote that shows this is “‘ I could get along so easy and so nice if I didn’t have you on my tail’” (Steinbeck 7). This shows that George takes care of Lennie. “‘God damn you’ he cried ‘why do you got to get killed’” (Steinbeck 85). Lennie killed his pup and trying to hide it in order to get his dream to tend the rabbits. Lennie Did not mean to kill the pup, the pup was acting like it was gonna bite Lennie so Lennie acted out and smacked him and killed him. Curley's wife walked in on Lennie after he hid the dead pup. She tells him to feel her hair and he loves soft things and he shook her around violently and killed her. “‘I done a bad thing. I done another bad thing’” (Steinbeck 91).This quote shows that Lennie will do make bad decisions in order to get his dream. Lennie killed Curley’s wife in order to tend the rabbits.
